Category: Aquarium Substrate

Gray Coast Calcite is an all natural calcite substrate for all types of marine, reef and tropical aquaria. Its chemical composition will assist in stabilizing calcium and alkalinity while preventing large pH declines.

Set-up

Although it is pre-washed, because GrayCoast is a natural product, it may become dusty in transit and require rinsing before use to remove any residual dust.

When adding water to aquarium, fill slowly to avoid disturbing Gray Coast substrate bed. Place a bowl in the aquarium and add water directly to the bowl, allowing water to overflow softly on to the gravel bed. Initial cloudiness is normal.

Please Note: This substrate is not suitable for soft water setups! When used with plants extra care has to be taken and regular maintenance is needed.

Riley ★★★★★

I switched to this substrate because I wanted something that would help buffer the water chemistry without using additives, and it's noticeably improved my reef tank's stability. The calcite composition really does seem to keep calcium and alkalinity levels more consistent between water changes.

Miles ★★★★★

The grain size is consistent across the whole bag, making it easy to spread evenly in the tank. My water parameters stabilized faster than with my previous substrate, and the calcite really does seem to help with alkalinity. It’s a solid choice for a natural-looking freshwater setup.

Abigail ★★★★★

I was a little worried about cloudiness, but after a gentle rinse and filling the tank, the water was clear within a few hours. My corals look noticeably more vibrant, and I love that the grains are uniform enough for my goby to sift through easily. A solid choice for a stable reef setup.
