I was skeptical about how much surface area these little beads could really have, but after a month in my canister filter, the water is noticeably clearer. The fact they come pre-bagged in a 1L mesh pouch made setup about five minutes faster than my usual media routine.

The hollow beads are surprisingly porous up close, so they've got tons of surface area for bacteria to colonize. Dropped them in my filter basket and the water’s been crystal clear for three weeks straight.

These hollow beads are a perfect upgrade for my canister filter. The porous surface seems to be housing way more beneficial bacteria than the ceramic rings I was using before. Water has been crystal clear since I swapped them in.
