Alternanthera sessilis

Alternanthera sessilis is a fine-looking small bushy, stem plant with sturdy red/purple stems and long, pointy attractive leaves. These plants originate from South America and need plenty of light to develop the red/purple leaves. With the addition of CO2 this plant will grown readily to the surface. If there is a lack of micro nutrients this plant will suffer and the leaves will become pale in colour. This engaging plant will bring instant vibrancy and colour to your aquarium. As with all stem plants grow in groups of two and up.

Ryan Z. ★★★★★

Planted this in the midground and the long, pointy leaves created nice contrast against my shorter ground cover. It started showing new growth within a week, and the stems are a solid deep red even under moderate light.

Andrew ★★★★★

The red-purple stems really stand out against my other greens, and the leaves have that long, pointy shape you see in the photos—they’re already bushing out nicely. It’s a solid, easy stem plant that settled in without any melt.

Emily K. ★★★★★

It’s been about two weeks and this Alternanthera has already settled in beautifully—that deep red/purple stem color really stands out against the green in my tank. The leaves are long and pointy just as described, and it seems to be growing bushy without much fuss.
