Category: Aquarium Plants

Glossostigma elatinoides from New Zealand is much in demand in Japanese-inspired aquariums. It is one of the smallest aquarium plants (2-3 cm tall), and thus a good foreground plant. A difficult plant demanding a lot of light. Grows upwards if light is poor. Make sure larger plants do not overshadow it. When planting in the aquarium small clumps (approx. 1/8 pot) should be placed at intervals of a few centimetres to help the plants grow together more quickly. CO2 addition and soft water promote growth significantly.

Finally got this to carpet nicely in my high-tech setup, and those tiny 2-3 cm leaves create a lush, vibrant green foreground that really pops under the light. It took some patience with CO2 and trimming, but the result is exactly that Japanese-inspired look I was after.

Planted these tiny Glossostigma plugs in my nano tank three weeks ago, and they've already started carpeting nicely across the substrate. The small size really opens up the foreground, and the growth pattern is exactly what I was hoping for.

After struggling to get foreground plants to carpet, this Glossostigma is finally taking off in my tank — those tiny 2-3 cm leaves are exactly what I needed. It's a bit tricky to establish at first, but once rooted, it spreads beautifully across the substrate. Really happy with how it's filling in t
