Rotala wallichii is a demanding plant that develops red shoot tips in good light conditions.

The most decorative effect can be achieved by planting a large number of stems in a group. Rotala walichii is a good foreground plant and suitable for small aquariums because it is easy to prune if it grows too large. CO2 addition boosts growth considerably. It also prefers soft, slightly acidic water.

James Z. ★★★★★

The red tips finally showed after a week under strong lighting, and the stems are tall enough now that the whole corner looks like a little forest. I trimmed one stem and it grew back even bushier, so the group is filling in nicely.

Miles ★★★★★

Planted a cluster of these in the back of my tank and the bright red shoot tips really pop against the green stems. They took a few days to settle in but once the light hit them, the color started coming through beautifully. Exactly the demanding look I was after for my aquascape.

John ★★★★★

The red tips finally showed up after about two weeks under strong lighting, and now the group of stems looks like a little underwater flame. It's definitely not a low-effort plant, but the color payoff is worth the extra attention.
